Following the outcry to reform Planned Parenthood after a video of employees discussing the sale of aborted fetus body parts surfaced, Republican leaders have driven a bill blocking Planned Parenthood funding through the House. This bill, designed to avert a government shutdown, already has the attention of President Obama who has promised a veto.
Adam Goodman joined host Eric Bolling and co-panelist Sandy Rios (pro-life radio talk show host) on The O’Reilly Factor to discuss legislation to defund Planned Parenthood.
“This should bother everybody right now,” said Goodman. “We’re seeing another example of how an act of conscience is being punished.”
Goodman, calling the tapes an “attack on human life,” noted that the issues surrounding Planned Parenthood have turned into a political argument about the “merits of shutting down government,” rather than a discussion on abortion and women’s healthcare.
Conservative legislators from around the country have threatened a government shutdown if Planned Parenthood isn’t defunded. The bill passed by the House still faces the opposition of Democratic Senators and President Obama, leaving virtually no chance that it will become law.
Goodman, agreeing with Bolling, said that a reasonable thing would be to take measures ensuring taxpayer money does not pay for abortions.
“Unfortunately… this is not the way Washington plays it. They think this is a game. But if you watch these tapes, this isn’t a game.”
“We have to start doing better than this as a country.”
