Trump threatens independent run as Americans seek leadership – Fox Business News, December 9, 2015
Despite a previous agreement, Donald Trump is discussing a 3rd party campaign if he is not “treated fairly” by the Republican party. Trump has come under fire once again for his claim that Muslims should not be allowed to enter the country.
“[Donald Trump] is playing into an election that is driven by fear and fueled by a President that simply singularly fails to lead,” said Goodman.
Goodman has long held that President Obama’s ‘political correctness’ has had an impact on the 2016 race, and that part of Trump’s rise in the polls was due to his blunt manner. Trump’s rejection of political correctness is a sharp contrast to Obama’s cautious rhetoric and has helped Trump gain supporters.
Should Trump run as an independent candidate, it is almost certain that he would split the Republican vote and hand the Presidency back to the Democrats.
Still, there are other Republicans in the field gaining support across the nation, including Ted Cruz’s sudden rise in Iowa.
“I always believe that competition is good,” said Goodman. “In the Republican Party you’re seeing a lot of competition from various people with different experiences and different points of view, and that’s healthy.”
Goodman also called for less “lecturing” from President Obama and more leadership.
“This is not a Republican or Democrat issue,” said Goodman. “A lot of Americans are scared to death right now that they’re not getting the security they’re looking for… what they really want are not only straight answers but real remedies that this country can rally around.”
